This woman fought against racially stereotyped casting of Black women actors in Hollywood. She starred in TV's Beulah (and later quit because it was "degrading") and in the films Pinky and Member of the Wedding. She reportedly had affairs with dancer Ethel Williams and novelist Radclyffe Hall.
